Bright Ideas

by Eric Coble

What would you do to get your child into the ‘right’ preschool? Josh and Genevra Bradley will do anything, and Eric Coble’s dark comedy Bright Ideas shows the hilariously disastrous results.  Bright Ideas will be served up by The Brewster Theater Company on March 8, 14th, 15th, and 22nd at 8 p.m. at The Melrose School, 120 Federal Road, Brewster, NY.

Produced by Wendy Egan and directed by Ryan Dietzen, this play centers on two parents who are convinced that placement in the correct preschool will ensure their soon-to-be 4 year old son’s future success.  Not content to sit on a waiting list, the couple becomes so obsessed with their son being accepted at the Bright Ideas preschool that they resort to drastic – and deadly -- measures.

This show features Paul Stein and Abigail Bara Hall, both from Brewster, as Joshua and Genevra Bradley.  Ambyr Bartko (New Fairfield) and Brian Field (Brewster) play Lynzie and Ross, the most perfect couple in town. Valerie Esposito of Pawling plays the Bradleys’ nemesis, Denise.  Rounding out the cast are Rita Aber (Somers), Wendy Egan (Mount Kisco), Scott Griffith (Port Chester), Wendy Greggs (Carmel), and Erin MacDonald (Mahopac).

Director Ryan Dietzen has extensive acting and producing credits with BTC.  This past fall, he produced and appeared in The Importance of Being Earnest for the company.  Bright Ideas is the play that marks his directing debut.  Citing it as the funniest and most clever play he had read in a long time, Dietzen expects that audiences will appreciate the not so subtle commentary about overly competitive parents.

Tickets for this show are $15 for adults and $13 for students and seniors.  Go to www.brewstertheatercompany.org or call 845-598-1621 for reservations and additional information.  This show has been presented with special arrangement with Dramatist’s Play Service and does contain adult language.
