An Evening of One Acts

The eight plays have a unique take on engagements, old flames and missed  opportunities. 

We are looking for 9 men and 9 women in the 20's-60's age range.

Scripts are available for
in-library-use at Brewster Public Library.

Audition Dates:

Tues., May 3rd &
 Thur., May 5th 

from 7:00 - 9:00 PM
at Brewster Public Library

 

Performances:

Fri., June 10th at 8pm;
 Sat., June 11th at 8 pm;
Sun., June 12th at 7pm
at St. Andrew's Church Hall*

The M Word by Alan Ball

Synopsis: In THE M WORD two ambitious executives decide that they are good for each other and proceed to negotiate a future together. 

Characters

bulletWoman - Female, 30's - 40's; business professional 
bulletMan - Male, 30's - 40's; business professional

After* by Carol K Mack

Synopsis: Cindy tries to get information behind the scenes at an Disney World attraction. Glynda follows her and they discuss Happily Ever After.

Characters:  

bulletCindy - Female, 20's - 30's; journalist, slightly gruff, down-to-earth, independent, bright. 
bulletGlynda - Female, 30's - 40's; fairy (yes that one!)  
bulletGuide - Any sex, any age; offstage voice, obnoxious, turns hostile.

Marred Bliss* by Mark O'Donnell

Synopsis: An engaged couple has visits from old flames in a riotous series of Freudian slips and mispronunciations to reveal true meaning. 

Characters:  

bulletJane - Female, 20's - 40's; pretty, prissy, inhibited young woman  
bulletDink - Male, 20's - 40's; regular lug, talked into marriage but is ok with it  
bulletJeery - Male, 20's - 30's; a sexy sailor on the make (Jane's ex-boyfriend)  
bulletAlas - Female, 20's - 30's; provocatively dressed woman with elaborate hair & loose manners. (Dink's ex-girlfriend) 

Guys* by Robb Badlam

Synopsis: Guys discuss women at McDonald's 

Characters:  

bulletDuff - Male, 20's; college dude, really unkempt, all talk  
bulletTy - Male, 20's; college dude, somewhat unkempt

Lift & Bang* by Julie Marie Myatt

Synopsis: Man & woman discuss how to knead dough and inadvertently their relationship on a hot, steamy summer day regardless of the weather. 

Characters:  

bulletGrace - Female, 30's - 40's; jilted ex who is still in love Ben but protecting her heart. Wears little clothing.  
bulletBen - Male, 30's - 40's; the old flame, still in love Grace but unavailable. Must be comfortable bare-chested.

Hiss by Jett Parsley

Synopsis: A married couple's intimate moment on a washing machine gets interrupted by a snake. 

Characters:  

bulletAlex - Female, 20's - 30's; Sexy wife afraid of snakes.  
bulletJohn - Male, 20's - 30's; Sexy husband who likes to tease.

A Blooming of Ivy* by Garry Williams

Synopsis: A  grandmother who has a second chance at love with a widower. 

Characters:  

bulletIvy - Female, 50's - 60's; Widowed farm woman, weathered but a beauty in her day.
bulletGeorge - Male, 50's - 60's; Widower, handsome, distinguished grey. Farmer.

Heart Smart* by Linda Eisenstein

Synopsis: - In a hospital cardiac unit, two women cross swords over the care of a stricken corporate executive: his 50-something wife and his 20-something mistress.

Characters:  

bulletLily - Female, 50's; Elegant and well-preserved.
bulletJennifer - Female, 20's; A sleek corporate 20-something.
bulletMale Voice (off-stage)

  2. Take the US-6/US-202/RT-22 S exit- EXIT 10- toward BREWSTER
  3. Turn RIGHT onto US-202/US-6/NY-22 (this has a shrp left turn at a gas station - just stay left)
  4. At LIGHT Turn RIGHT onto E MAIN ST/US-6
  5. Go pass the Library, road turns to RIGHT at TRAIN STATION
  6. Turn RIGHT onto MICHAEL NUENER DR.
  7. St. Andrews in at the end of this rd on the left.
